GetYourGuide has become the latest travel company to integrate its
services with OpenAI's ChatGPT artificial intelligence-powered chatbot.
Expedia Group and Kayak were the first travel companies to integrate ChatGPT plugins,
enabling seamless travel booking from AI-generated itineraries. Other
companies, such as car rental app Turo, have also integrated with
ChatGPT to provide information and booking options to users.
By incorporating GetYourGuide's plugin into ChatGPT Plus, subscribers
can access real-time information and booking links directly from the
GetYourGuide website.
For instance, users can input prompts like "I'm visiting London next
week and want to explore the culture. Can you give me activities for
under $70?" The chatbot will then generate relevant results and provide
links for users to book their desired ticketed activities on the
GetYourGuide platform.
GetYourGuide has been utilising generative AI for content creation
internally since the release of ChatGPT. This marks the company's first
external tool released to the public, signalling its commitment to
experimenting with different tools and evolving its product experience
for customers and suppliers.
OpenAI has announced plans to release plugins for over 70 third-party
websites, cementing ChatGPT's development as a robust platform in the
travel industry. The integration of generative AI technology has the
potential to revolutionise the way users plan and book their travel
experiences.
While these advancements show promising potential, there are
limitations to the current technology. ChatGPT's capabilities are
enhanced when paired with external data, but it still has limitations in
personalisation and depth of information.
When ChatGPT is asked how it stays updated on travel related
offerings, it responded: “As an AI language model, my learning and
evolution are facilitated through ongoing training on vast amounts of
text data by OpenAI. They continually work on improving the model by
incorporating new information, monitoring feedback, and making necessary
adjustments.”
However, ChatGPT is also quick to point out that “while I strive to
provide accurate and helpful information, it's always a good idea to
verify any travel-related details with trusted sources or consult travel
industry experts for the most current and reliable information.”
