The implementation of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) has now been delayed to November 2023, according to information published on the European Commission's website.
ETIAS, the €7 visa-waiver form to enter the EU's passport-free zone, applies to non-EU citizens from 60 countries that have visa-free travel with the EU. It had originally been scheduled to start operating at the end of 2022, per the European Commission, which was then pushed back to May 2023.
ETIAS is modelled on the US Esta scheme, means non-EU travellers between the ages of 18 and 70 will have to fill in a form and pay €7 before entering Europe’s passport-free zone. Upon approval, the visa waiver is valid for multiple visits over three years.
