Global Hotel Alliance (GHA) has recently launched its Green
Collection, which highlights some 200 hotels, resorts, and palaces from
its portfolio worldwide that have met the highest international
standards for sustainability initiatives and performance.
The Green Collection features hotels that have achieved at least one
certification from a globally recognised environmental organisation,
such as Green Key, EarthCheck, Green Growth 2050, and Green Globe, among
others, with regular third-party audits conducted to retain
certification.
GHA CEO Chris Hartley stated that the launch of the Green Collection
is a reiteration of alliance's alignment "to the UN’s Sustainability
Development Goals (SDGs), which guide the development of the hospitality
industry for a more sustainable future."
According to a recent World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) report,
69% of travellers are actively seeking sustainable travel options in
2023, indicating that Green Collection meets this accelerating demand.
The Green Collection currently accounts for almost one-quarter (24%)
of the GHA Discovery portfolio, and half of its brands are represented,
from mid-scale to high-end.
GHA's Green Collection features hotels that are taking the lead in
sustainable tourism practices, such as Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay
in Singapore with its 'garden-in-a-hotel' concept; Avani Hotels &
Resorts' commitment to becoming a net-zero carbon organisation by 2050;
Anantara properties' Coral Adoption Programme and elephant foundation;
Kempinski Hotels' EarthCheck Certified programme; Outrigger Hotels &
Resorts' Green Seal sustainability certification; Marco Polo Hongkong
Hotel's EarthCheck Gold Certified status; and JA Resorts & Hotels
for its sustainable initiatives in the GCC region.
To celebrate the launch of the Green Collection, every Green
Collection hotel booking made via GHA Discovery channels before the end
of April 2023 and completed by 31 July 2023 will see GHA donating US$5
to the charities it supports as part of its Corporate Social
Responsibility Programme.
GHA boasts 24 million members and 800 properties from 40 brands across 100 countries around the globe.
