Singapore’s Sentosa Island has introduced the world's first outdoor 5G-enabled Extended Reality (XR) tourism experience.

Developed by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), and the Government Technology Agency (GovTech), "The Battle of Fort Siloso: A 5G-enabled XR Experience" will transport guests to a captivating World War Two battle at Fort Siloso.

Combining the immersive power of XR technology with the lightning-fast connectivity of 5G, this heritage-themed experience promises to engage visitors with a blend of captivating storytelling, virtual imagery, and interactive gaming. Step into the shoes of soldiers defending the fort as you experience the sights and sounds of war-time commands, all brought to life with cutting-edge audio and visuals.

From 2-24 June 24 2023, members of the Sentosa Islander programme will have the exclusive opportunity to register for this groundbreaking trial experience. The feedback received during the trial will guide the development of further enhancements and potential deployment, taking into account technology maturity and commercial interest.

Wong Ming Fai, chief technology officer of the Singapore Tourism Board, expressed excitement about this innovative heritage experience at Fort Siloso, emphasising the potential for tourism companies to create unique and unforgettable experiences for visitors.

Michael Ma, assistant chief executive of SDC, believes that harnessing digital innovation will enhance tourism offerings on Sentosa Island, while preserving and respecting the island's rich heritage.
