Bali has been named as the world’s top trending destination in
research undertaken by Mabrian Technologies, a US-based travel
intelligence company.
Even before China eased its travel restrictions – opening the way for
Chinese travellers to reignite their love affair with Bali – Mabrian
Technologies analysed the trends identified by travellers who posted
their opinions on TripAdvisor.
This
revealed that activities related to nature, active and wellness tourism
have increased in importance during the last four years.
“Popular tourism products such as sun and beach, and cultural
experiences, were giving way to these new activities”, Mabrian noted.
Bali stood out from the crowd by offering a wide range of activities
related to active, nature and wellness tourism, as well as improved air
connectivity for 2023, with dozens of new routes planned, bringing a
115% increase in incoming seats.
“In addition, Bali offers a very competitive average hotel accommodation price,” Mabrian said.
The Greek island of Crete and Portugal’s Algarve followed Bali as the top trending destinations in 2023.
Also, trending according to UK luxury cruise specialist, Panache Cruises, is the need to digital detox during a holiday.
No surprise that Antarctica and the Svalbard archipelago, around
1,930 km north of Norway – popular with those seeking the Northern
Lights – are digital detox favourites.
Others to consider? Try Sri Lanka's Sinharaja Rainforest and the Valley of Flowers in India.
“There are still some places where it is possible to escape the reach
of technology, beyond the reach of mobile phone signals and the
internet,” Panache offered.
