Question: What is it that many Singaporeans hope to do on 11 June
that Australians and Japanese wish to achieve on 30 June? Answer:
Travel.
In an unusual survey of 2,400 consumers, in partnership with
Qualtrics, TripAdvisor’s Consumer Sentiment Survey found that 11 June
was the most popular day of travel for Singaporeans, while Australians
and Japanese favoured the end of June for their next travel adventure.
The good news is that travel sentiment in Singapore is high, with 84%
of respondents to the survey planning to travel for leisure between
June and August, the highest response of any of the five countries
surveyed by TripAdvisor (Singapore, US, UK, Australia and Japan).
Just 3% of Singapore respondents expect to travel less this year than
they did last year with 66% planning to travel more this year than
last.
Millennials are in a hurry to get back out there, with the Index
revealing that this group is more likely to travel this upcoming season,
compared to other age groups.
Interestingly, younger respondents (Gen Z and millennials) are also
more likely to alter upcoming travel plans due to macroeconomic factors
compared to older groups (49% vs 31%, on average).
The world’s major cities continue to drive travel demand. According
to TripAdvisor’s site behavioural data, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Seoul are
the top three international destinations for travel by Singaporeans
over the next three months.
