The Maldives has reached a major milestone by welcoming its 1
millionth tourist of 2023, a month ahead of last year's achievement. The
country remains on track to meet President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's
target of 1.8 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year.
The Maldives' marketing efforts in the first two quarters of 2023
have played a ky role in driving exposure and maintaining a strong
presence in key markets. The resumption of direct flights between the
Maldives and China has significantly contributed to the increase in
arrivals, with the Chinese market experiencing a 1,659.5% growth
compared to the same period last year.
Other marketing events, such as the Visit Maldives Storytellers' Conference 2023, have also contributed to boosting arrivals and expanding coverage of different regions of the Maldives.
The Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation’s strategic marketing
activities aim to attract more visitors and achieve the president's
target of 1.8 million tourist arrivals. Collaboration with global
stakeholders, including airlines, tour operators, and travel agents, has
been instrumental in surpassing pre-pandemic arrival figures for most
of the top source markets.
Currently, Russia, India, the UK, China, and Germany rank among the
top five markets for the Maldives. India, in particular, has
consistently remained at the top arrivals spot post-pandemic, while the
UK and German markets have also exceeded pre-pandemic figures.
