AirAsia X has resumed services to its first-ever route to Gold Coast, Australia, after more than two years of hiatus due to the pandemic.

The inaugural flight departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport and landed at Gold Coast International Airport, with a special send-off ceremony for guests and a welcoming event upon arrival.

The resumption of this route also makes AirAsia X the only carrier flying directly between Malaysia and the state of Queensland, which is expected to generate AU$45.6 million (US$30.5 million) for the Gold Coast’s visitor economy, according to Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe.

The return of AirAsia X to the Gold Coast provides three return flights between Kuala Lumpur and the Gold Coast each week, bringing 58,000 additional seats into the region each year, according to Queensland Airports Limited CEO Amelia Evans. By the end of the year, AirAsia X will be increasing its Gold Coast flight schedule to five days a week.

Fares for AirAsia X between Kuala Lumpur and the Gold Coast starts from RM699 one-way for economy to RM2,999 one-way for a Premium Flatbed. The airline will also soon be unveiling giveaways and the opportunity to win free flights.
